UPVC Door Hinge Repair

If your rebated door hinges are squeaking, a quick and easy fix is spraying them with aerosol lithium or silicone grease. This will stop the squeaking for a while but it isn't a permanent solution and may wear off over time.
Drill out the screw holes and then fill them with wood filler. This will keep the screws in place and provide you with a solid grip on the door. You can also use toothpicks to fill in the holes and strengthen them.
A dowel made of wood that is the same size as your screw hole is an alternative. Make a hole big enough to fit the dowel. Attach the dowel to the screw hole and then chisel it flush when set. You can then fix the hinge back into place.
I have some old doors that had the hinge recesses cut too deep and splinted. They are quite heavy frames that are embedded in the wall of an old building, so replacement is not really an option. Flag Hinges
uPVC hinges can be used to replace hinges on old doors or to upgrade the style of the door. Many of the newer uPVC door models come with adjustable slimline hinges. You can also opt for fillers with a higher gloss to give the door a polished look. You can also fill in the gap with wood. This is somewhat more expensive however it will make your door appear new.
Recess Hinges
Make a small recess in the door frame with an chisel that matches the size hinge you are installing. After you have made the cut, you will need to scrape away the wood and wipe the area with a wet cloth. This will ensure that the new hinge will sit flush against the surface.
